From Marilyn to Lupita, Here are the Most Breathtaking Oscars Gowns Ever

The pressure is on! As the last major awards show of the season, is the last chance for stars to make a standout impression on the red carpet. For that reason, A-listers really go all out on Oscars night and we have the proof to back it up. Sixty-plus years of proof, in fact.

We dug into our archives and unearthed the dresses from Oscars past that met the three B’s: bold, beautiful, and breathtaking. We started with who selected a cloud of black tulle for the 23rd Academy Awards in 1951 (above, center). From there, we jumped through the decades, highlighting our favorites, like ‘s impossibly elegant caped number in 2012 (left). And we finished with last year’s ceremony where had a real-life Cinderella moment in a plunging aqua  creation (right).
