This Flaming Hot Toddy Will Warm You Up All Winter Long

As we endure a seemingly endless winter, we can always count on alcohol as a no-fail option to keep us warm. And no drink is more seasonally appropriate in near-freezing temps than a good old Hot Toddy. Traditionally drunk before going to bed and sometimes touted as a remedy for the common cold, the Bourbon and tea-based beverage not only heats up your body, but it’s extremely easy to make (a majority of the ingredients are likely already in your pantry).
While recipes vary, our friends over at on N.Y.C.’s Lower East Side make an especially unique version that’s spiced up like a mulled wine with cinnamon, nutmeg, and tonka bean. “The warmth of the tea, the soothing whiskey, and the surprising spices make the Hot Toddy a seasonal staple,” says general manager and head bartender Damien Aries. Check out the how-to below straight from the source, complete with a blazing GIF.
Directions:
1. In a pot over medium heat, add all of your ingredients and warm until hot, just before it boils. Remove from heat and carefully pour into a glass. Add the spices on top and garnish with a cinnamon stick and orange slice.
Note: Experimental Cocktail Club boils their water using a flame gun instead of a traditional stovetop.

Found It: Frank Underwood’s Rowing Machine from House of Cards

House of Cards Rowing Machine

As any fan worth her salt knows protagonist Frank Underwood likes nothing more than retreating to the basement of his well-appointed home for a solitary interlude of exercise on his rowing machine—a meditative release after a long day of philandering, eating ribs for breakfast, and menacing co-workers. That beautiful wood grain contraption is called a WaterRower, and is now being sold at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC ($1,500; ).

Frank Underwood’s Rowing Machine Netflix
Designed to mimic the feeling of a boat gliding along a river or lake, the rowing machine creates resistance with a tank filled with water, and the level of difficulty adjusts naturally to the user. It’s quieter than air resistance rowers, requires no external power, has a small footprint and can be stored upright when not in use.
The machine’s construction is worth noting too. It’s handcrafted in Rhode Island from sustainably managed hardwoods from the Appalachian Forest—let’s just say it’s far kinder to the planet than Frank.

Runway Looks We Love: Prada

Designer:

Season:

Location: Milan

What was it like: Miuccia Prada has truly outdone herself. For fall/winter 2015, the designer tackled the ’50s and ’60s with an impeccable lineup of pantsuits, skirt sets, and dresses that was rather modest and demure, but with none of the prissiness. Instead, there was a cooler, edgier modern-day streak, with high-tech neoprene fabrics, interesting layers, and off-beat color combos.

Why we love this collection: The whole show was executed to a T without so much as a strand of hair out of place (which gave off some serious Stepford Wives-esque vibes), but it was a collection that embodied womanhood in its entirety, with the right blend of fierce, independent masculinity and the delicacy of femininity. Neckties accompanied sweet pastel suits, bows accented tweedy sets, and bold wavy plasticky coats injected otherwise serious undertones. And it was the accessories that tied the whole thing together, like the bicep-length opera gloves, floral brooches, and metallic stacked Mary Janes.

From the Daring to the Demure, See Our Favorite Looks from London Fashion Week

Just when we thought served up some pretty bold beauty moments, the wild hair and makeup choices to take the runways in London go and one-up us! London Fashion Week has come to a close and over the course of the last few days, models worked some of the craziest beauty looks we’ve seen all season. The haphazard vibe of ’s makeup (top left) ranks at the top of our most-daring list, and although the standout effects at , Giles, and were paired with otherwise minimalist makeup, the moments were just as striking as Westwood’s arts and crafts-esque feeling. Giles went for a gothic power pout with a swipe of inky black lipstick (bottom left), while Mary Katrantzou (top right) and Temperley London (bottom right) focused the drama on the eyes.

But that is not to say that all the London beauty moments were wild—while many of the effects were clearly not meant to be worn off the runway, many demure, elegant options translate just as well in the real world. That’s why we put together a list of our favorite runway beauty moments from London Fashion Week, ranging from the crazy to the chic. Click through our gallery to see each one up close!

Runway Looks We Love: Gucci

Designer:

Season:

Location: Milan

Notable guests:

What was it like: It was a completely different look for Gucci, with creative director Allesandro Michele now at the helm. The usual runway scenario took a different turn, with the audience in the center of the room on risers, while models walked the outskirts–the exact opposite of the habitual fashion show runway scenario.

Why we love this collection: As InStyle‘s Fashion News Director Eric Wilson notes, the collection was a “flash of excitement and energy that has long been missing in the city.” This took form in washed silk dresses with tiers of ruffles to oddly creased floral-print suits which lead us to believe the following is true: the Contemporary is indeed the Untimely at Gucci these days.

Video: Gabrielle Union Discusses Her Career Evolution and Reinventing Herself

has come a long way since her teen queen roles in movies like Bring It On and 10 Things I Hate About You. The actress, who with longtime love Dwayne Wade last summer, is the star of BET’s Being Mary Jane and just appeared in 2014’s Top Five. In the latest addition to , the magazine sat down with actress Gabrielle Union to get the lowdown on what inspires her and her career transition.

“I’m like kale. I’ve been around, but they, you know, oh, kale’s good! it’s like oh, that’s nice,” Union says of the transition from teen movies to serious adult roles, adding that it was a challenge. “I need kale’s publicist. ‘Cause kale is everywhere.” Vegetable comparisons aside, Union has established herself as a serious actress who can hold her own alongside the best of them, like Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, and Kevin Hart. “I watch. I love to study people as a sociology major. I did a lot of field study where I’m just watching people and taking notes, and I sort of use that in my job.”

As for what’s next for the actress, Union says she wants to keep putting realism and honesty in her roles. “I want to do good work, I want to do work that challenges me and that I’m proud of.” See the full video above, and head over to to check out all the videos from their Lightbulb series.

Watch Ed Sheeran's Stripped Down Cover of Christina Aguilera's Hit Song “Dirrty”

Just when we thought we couldn’t love Ed Sheeran any more, he went and did this. During an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge today, the 24-year-old singer premiered his version of ’s hit 2002 track “Dirrty,” and it is the cover we never knew we needed to hear. While it’s significantly stripped down from the original (pun intended) and the star is definitely not sweatin’ until his clothes come off, the song is impressive nonetheless. The best part? When Sheeran single-handedly takes on Redman’s entire rap near the end as he continues to play the acoustic guitar. Give Ed Sheeran some room, he’s comin’ through. Watch him perform “Dirrty” below (we promise you’ll want to listen more than once), and just for kicks check out Christina’s original music video for the song, too.

Runway Looks We Love: Erdem

What was it like: There’s a reason Erdem Moralioglu’s creations are red carpet regulars—his exquisite designs are beautiful in their handiwork and craftsmanship, yet there lies a dark undercurrent of edge and seduction that appeals to anyone who isn’t comfortable settling for just pretty. Most recently named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council, Moralioglu is riding high—and his fall/winter 2015 collection is proof of that. Why we love this collection: Moralioglu points to several heroines as his muses for his fall collection, including Kim Novak in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 film Vertigo, Claudia Cardinale in Luchino Visconti’s 1965 movie Sandra, and Romy Schneider in Visconti’s Boccaccio ’70 from 1962. The result? Devastating beauty found in faded antique prints, incredible blooming dresses with frayed hems, painfully plain coats that segue into mesmerizing metallics, and unraveling 3D textural floral pieces. The verdict: It won’t be long before we find these on the red carpet.

My Power Outfit: Fashion Illustrator Meagan Morrison

This story originally appeared on . For more stories like this, .
Name: Meagan Morrison
Job/Company: Fashion Illustrator
Brief description of what you do in your role:
I travel the world and illustrate my experiences through a fashion-art lens, creating custom content for various clients. Whether it’s fashion week in Moscow for MBFWRussia, or a quick jaunt to Bermuda for Condé Nast Traveler, I translate what I see into inspired illustrations to be shared with the world.
What are you wearing?
Dip-dyed fox fur scarf: Sucre NYC
Jacket: Zara
Dress: H&M
Shoes: Sigerson Morrison
Handbag: See by Chloe
Ring: Henri Bendel
Earrings: Rebecca Little
Why does it make you feel powerful?
As a fashion illustrator I’m constantly studying outfits from head to toe—how little accents show so much character and personality. Looser layers and distressed clothing can convey a laissez-faire attitude, whereas well-tailored clothing can show a sense of confidence and self-awareness. I personally feel most confident guest lecturing in this outfit because it’s well-fitted to my body, the silhouette is balanced, and shows a bit of my playful side with the dip-dyed fox fur scarf. I also wear the Henri Bendel ring every single day. It was the first purchase I made working as an illustrator, so it holds a lot of significance for me about living in my passion and following my truth.
Any advice for dressing for a variety of clients as a freelancer?
I think the expression “know your audience” is really relevant when it comes to presenting yourself to various clients. You always want to dress true to you, but also be aware of who you’re speaking with, and what you’re communicating through what you’re wearing. I want to be perceived as professional, someone who has a strong sense of self, but also someone who’s relatable and grounded. For that reason I often opt for a really nice pair of designer flats or leather boots when I meet a client for the first time. I’m an artist and very hands on. Also, always have your nails done! It shows that you care about the details and really finishes a look.

Julianne Moore Says She’ll Live 5 Years Longer Thanks to Her Oscar Win

“Thank you so much,” Moore said as she accepted her statuette in a dazzling custom gown. “I read an article that said that winning an Oscar could lead to living 5 years longer—If that’s true I’d really like to thank the Academy because my husband is younger than me.”

After praising her fellow nominees (, , , and ) and giving a rousing round of thank you’s, Moore gave a touching mention to the film’s subject. “I’m thrilled that we were actually able to shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease,” she said. “People with Alzheimer’s deserve to be seen so we can find a cure.”

Donut Buns to Beach Waves: Girls’ Stylist Spills on the Show’s Hair Revolution

Girls hair

By:

Four seasons of HBO’s have spanned the good, the bad, and the ugly moments in that life-altering transition from college to the real world. As the girls have adapted (or at least gave a good attempt) to adult responsibilities—jobs, relationships, living situations included—even seemingly frivolous details, like their hair, have followed suit.

Shoshanna’s donut bun hasn’t yet made an appearance this season, yet the girls’ four very distinctive personalities and hair accessorizing proclivities have remained intact. , Scunci Expert and Hair Designer for Girls has groomed the girls (and boys) since the show’s debut, offering her a place in pop culture, and endless hairstyling (and Pinterest) inspiration for us. Here’s her take on the show’s ever-evolving hair, the key product for Marnie’s perfectly tousled beach waves, and her favorite look—it may surprise you!

Shoshanna () is in a more professional frame of mind this season. How has that changed your approach to styling her hair?
Shoshanna is taking a big new step in her life, getting into the workforce. She’s presenting a whole new image to the world, as if she’s trying to say, “Hey, I’m ready for a career.” For her hair, I went in the direction of “vintage-influenced” wavy bob. It keeps with the upgraded, professional style she is sporting this season without loosing too much of the Shoshanna quirkiness that we have all come to love.

sherryhearthair/Instagram

Marnie () has been rocking some serious beach waves this season. In an Instagram, you revealed that you use a sea salt spray. Which brand do you prefer?
I love Sachajaun Ocean Mist spray ($28; ). It’s light and doesn’t weigh hair down as the day goes on. Allison’s hair loves it and I get some good waves out of it.

This season, Hannah () moved to Iowa to attend grad school, which took some major adjusting on her part. How did her hair reflect those big life changes?
I think Hannah has always had a no-nonsense approach to her hair. So, when she headed off to school and started getting more serious about her writing, I decided to keep it simple with just a bob and bangs. I thought this style looked cute on her, but also stayed simple for her school mode.

Shoshanna’s donut bun was parodied on SNL. What’s it like to see a hairstyle you created become part of pop culture?
Oh my gosh, that was fantastic! SNL parodied Shoshanna’s donut and Jessa’s braid. I was laughing so hard! What a compliment! Any time my team and I put out a hairdo that goes viral, I’m really proud! How great was that? As they say, parody is the best form of flattery.

Where do you find all those cute hair accessories, like the barrettes you use on Shoshanna and Hannah?
Over the years, I have used many different kinds and many different brands of hair accessories. But the one I keep coming back to, and have used for years, is . I think for durability and practicality Scunci is the best. You will see quite a few of their barrettes and other products sprinkled around on the characters this season. Shoshanna is constantly wearing some sort of barrette in her hair for both function and “pop.”

How can we get Jessa’s (‘s) signature messy top knot?
To get Jessa’s signature top-knot, it’s all about twisting and pinning. First, bend over and gather your hair right on top of your head and twist. Come back up and twist your hair down in a spiral, wrapping the hair around itself. Tuck the end in and pin along the bottom until it’s secure. The messier the better for this hairdo. Of course, Jemima’s thick mane of hair makes it really easy to have a substantial top-knot but, any one with long hair can create this style.

Girls/Facebook

What’s been a favorite look from the past four seasons?
In season two, I created a crimped look on Jessa that had three different styles all in one day. It’s the episode when Jessa goes out to dinner to meet her then-husband’s parents. Her hair was half up and half down in a faux Gibson with a couple of chopsticks thrown in. I like to refer to that hairdo as an 80’s-Gibson Samurai. Her hair is always my fave to do – just because she’s got so much of it! She can really carry off any style.

The pressure is on! As the last major awards show of the season, is the last chance for stars to make a standout impression on the red carpet. For that reason, A-listers really go all out on Oscars night and we have the proof to back it up. Sixty-plus years of proof, in fact.

Bedroom Behavior: #NYFW Designers Give Us a Reason to Wear Pajamas In Public

Matching pajama sets, little lace camis, pretty satin chemises—all the sartorial pieces typically reserved for the boudoir and in between the sheets are about to see the light of day for . In between cozy knits, cuddle-worthy coats, and nightwear elements, designers have effectively captured all of our hibernation tendencies during winter (especially this one) with one collection. Pajama dressing may not be a novel concept, but this time around, the trend has been reimagined with modern silhouettes, luxe touches, and new layers.

Designer made pajamas publicly acceptable when he sent out a navy silk georgette set featuring wide crop trousers and trimmed with crisp white piping. The look was styled with a glamorous peacoat and patent boots (above, left). Design duo Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of took dipped into ’90s nostalgia for inspiration, layering sexy lace slips over knits and tailored trousers. The duo topped the ensembles off with heavy-duty parkas (center). And took pajama dressing to the next level with cozy-chic printed coordinates, giving them a luxurious feel with belted fur stoles (right).

In lieu of traditional silhouettes, designed a fluid one-piece with all the characteristics of sleepwear, like sweet lace finishes and silky smooth fabrics (above, left). And, finally, the Mulleavy sisters of  rounded out their bombshell aesthetic with camis decorated with sheer lace and rainbow sequins (right)— the pieces won’t only rule the bedroom, but the streets too.

Spirit Awards Red Carpet: Jessica Chastain Is Ready For Beach Weather

It used to be the Film Independent Spirit Awards was just an appetizer for the Academy Awards— not anymore. The stars came out dressed to impress, but that’s not to say the bohemian vibe has evaporated. In fact, celebrities like , who is nominated for Best Supporting Female for her work in A Most Violent Year, seem to let loose. “I feel very ’60s! We’re at the beach— let’s get the legs out!” she told InStyle on the awards show’s red carpet tonight. In a chic black minidress with lace sleeves and plenty of Piaget bracelets, Chastain was indeed airing her gams. (And toned stems at that!)

The Reason Behind Olivia Pope’s “Slightly Off” Wardrobe

Finally! After several torturous episodes, Olive Pope () has been rescued by the highest bidder on the international auction. Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield), determined not to let the CIA sacrifice her friend, hunts down former gladiator, Stephen Finch, and finagles a way for him to accept the $2 billion auction prize (Olivia) on Russia’s behalf, ultimately saving her life. Thank goodness!

Olivia springs into action after she realizes that her buyer is on her side. She grabs Stephen’s gun, shoots her captor in the leg, and kicks him repeatedly in the gut after he falls to the ground. In this scene, we couldn’t help but notice her kick-butt Burberry boots. “We needed a solid boot so that she had lots of support,” costume designer, Lyn Paolo tells InStyle. “We knew that she was going to do a lot of action-related things in this episode so that’s why we put her in those.”

As for the rest of her outfit, don’t forget that those items were all picked out by her captors, who had previously been surveilling her for months to make sure she looked as ‘Olivia Pope’ as possible for her prospective auction bidders. “We wanted the look to be slightly off from her normal look so that it was clear that her kidnappers dressed her,” Paolo explains. “We wouldn’t normally use this particular coat on Olivia. Baby pink is not generally in her colorway, but overall it looks like they were at least trying.” Paolo paired the Burberry boots with J. Brand jeans, a Vince boatneck sweater, and a Burberry coat to top it off.

Scandal is going on a brief hiatus (sigh), but be sure to tune in when the show returns to ABC on March 5th!

Here, Seinfeld takes us inside the kitchen to help us master basic and delicious breakfast foods in a fun and interesting way.

loves a smoothie, but only when making it is efficient with an even more efficient cleanup. She is the first to admit that making one can be a chore—and she’s here to show us how to fix that. To make smoothies more approachable, Seinfeld has simplified them down to three healthy ingredients each that are sure to always produce a delicious morning.

When it comes to the fixings, Seinfeld prefers frozen fruit because its good no matter the season, is easy to work with, and requires much less cleanup. Want an extra kick? Add spices or throw in an additional ingredient. One thing’s certain: with these pared-down combos, you’ll be out the door in minutes.

Simplify your mornings, and try out one of Seinfeld’s recipes below.

Runway Looks We Love: Ralph Lauren

Designer:

Notable Guests:

Location: 550 Washington St.

What was it like: A frenzy of flashbulbs ensued as Kanye West entered the swanky chandelier-lit studio space (his first time attending the designer’s show), but as soon as the show began, the entire room instantaneously shifted their focus to a myriad of Western-inspired looks, holding true to Lauren’s sophisticated and timeless style. This time it came in the form of cashmere everything (from turtlenecks to skirts to dresses) in tonal shades, to cozy shearling patchwork coats and vests, to a gorgeous glittering bronze beaded dress complete with a snuggly chic topper and matching gloves.

Why we love this collection: Last season, we were wooed by an inspirational  that had us planning an exotic vacay, but this season, after a seemingly endless winter that just won’t let up, Lauren’s cozy chic collection comprised of layers of cashmere, shearling, and platform boots was exactly what the fashion doctor ordered.

The Coziest Runway Looks From #NYFW That We Wish We Could Wear Right Now

Arguably one of the worst things about hitting the is that it falls during the coldest month of the year. This year is especially brutal, with bone-chilling temps, winter storms, and freezing gusts of wind to withstand. It doesn’t help, either, when weather advisory alerts feed into the panic, or when the warehouse spaces situated along the Hudson forego heat. And don’t even get us started on the muddy slush aftermath. It paints quite an unflattering picture.

But what makes it all better (or worse—depending on how you look at it)? The beyond cozy looks from the runways. Last year’s Polar Vortex must have left a chilling mark, because winter-proof looks have infiltrated the fall/winter 2015 collections, from enveloping fur-lined cocoon coats to super chunky knits.

We rounded up all of our favorite cold-weather looks that had us wishing we could rip off the runway and wear right now, like ‘s gloriously oversize honey shearling peacoat (above, left), the furry gray coat and sweater seat at (center), and ‘s shaggy topper (right). Click ahead to cry-slash-drool with us. Disclaimer: Side effects include disdain for your current parka or overcoat—you’ve been warned.

Runway Looks We Love: Oscar de la Renta

Designer:

Location: 11 West 42nd St.

Notable guests: , , Barbara Walters

What was it like: The fall/winter 2015 show marked Peter Copping’s debut collection for Oscar de la Renta. Formerly of Nina Ricci, Copping was , so naturally, it was the most highly anticipated show in town. In a letter Copping writes, “I am immensely proud to have been chosen as the Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta. In this, my first collection, I hope to honour Oscar’s legacy and also to start a new chapter for the house.”

Why we love this collection: From beginning to end, the line-up of ladylike daywear to extraordinary eveningwear was Oscar de la Renta to the core. “Copping was respectful, a gentleman who lived up to the standard Oscar would have expected,” wrote InStyle Fashion News Director Eric Wilson in his review. “[It] struck me watching his runway that the results were very much like []—sketches of the idea of de la Renta—full in the hips with a patrician posture.” But what earned the most gasps (and Insta snaps) was the parade of breathtaking showstoppers, like the columns embroidered with blooms, the dramatic two-toned “duchessina” ball gowns (one rendered in a mini), and exquisitely beaded numbers.

Runway Looks We Love: Vera Wang

Designer:

Location: 545 W. 22nd Street

What was it like: From the moody music to the grey-toned studio space, everything about Vera’s fall 2015 show was inherently sexy (including an appearance by , who pranced down the runway in a cool babydoll-esque LBD).

Why we love this collection: Sure, Vera Wang’s 2015 collection was seeded heavily in black, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t feel the warmth of the collection from start to finish. From oversized fisherman cable pullovers that looked as cozy as they did understatedly sexy, to sultry crepe bustier tops with lace-up detailing that we’d eagerly slip on for a night on the town, the seasoned designer knocked it out of the park once again.

17 Songs That Will Make You Feel Beautiful

Below is an excerpt from “17 Songs That Will Make You Feel Beautiful,” which originally appeared on . Read the full story at .

I, for one, am thrilled to see the blitz of empowering videos about being and appreciating yourself. As a beauty gal, I love makeup, skin care, and dabbling in a few bold hairstyles (I currently have a wash of blue in my hair), but at the end of the day, I am left with the woman without the mascara and the concealer. And as someone with a healthy dose of confidence, it wasn’t until the past few years that I truly felt comfortable and pretty in my own skin.

This year has been chock-full of videos encouraging us to embrace our natural looks, which led me down memory lane’s best beauty anthems.  — most capture the essence of being yourself, while others just make you feel good.

Runway Looks We Love: Donna Karan

Designer:

Location: Cedar Lake, 547 West 26th St.

Notable guests: , , , Bernadette Peters

What was it like: The may have a stake in downtown cool, but the Donna Karan woman is all about uptown glam. In another successful homage to New York City, Karan catered to the women on top, with a city-slick line-up of power-trip pieces and daring gowns. It’s everything you need for the office, a black-tie affair, and everything in between.

Why we love this collection: Donna Karan may be sophisticated, but conservative it is not. For fall/winter 2015, Karan carved out modern silhouettes out of lush fabrics, like brocade and silk. For every safe button-down or pant, there was some standout detail, from geometric folds to statement coats with luxe fur accents or rich gilded embroidery, or belted fur shawls. And if you got close enough, each model was (faux) pierced with multi-ring ear cuffs for a tiny dose of downtown edge.

SNL 40th Anniversary: The A-List Party of the Season!

Sure the windchill in NYC dropped to an unbearable -9 degrees and was in full roar, but some of Tinseltown’s boldest face celebs stepped out anyway for 40th Anniversary fete (which took place last night– a Sunday!)

But as with the best kinds of parties, it was a mixed crowd. took Instagrams from backstage.

The sisters trio Haim, dressed in pieces by and , were particularly excited about a possible Mary Catherine Gallagher sighting. They were on the heels of bestie , who wowed in an dress with cut-outs. The friends actually had just spent Saturday night together too. Hanging with Taylor is “the craziest amount of fun I think we’ve ever had,” they told InStyle. “We ate a lot of chocolate chip cookies last night that she baked for Valentine’s Day and they were delicious. I just sat there and watched her bake until I could down them.” Funny and sweet.

Why You Need Powder Face Cleanser In Your Skincare Routine

Now here’s an unexpected way to powder your nose: Powder face cleansers are already big abroad in countries like Japan and Korea, and thanks to innovations by the brands we know and love stateside, the formula is quickly gaining popularity in the U.S. The formulas act partly as a DIY exfoliant–simply spill a small amount into the palm of your hand, then mix with a few drops of water to transform the powder into a foam. If you prefer a little more grit, go easy on the water, but if you prefer a texture similar to the rest of the cleansers in your arsenal, mix equal parts of both powder and water. Because elements like alcohol and preservatives are left out of the mix, powder face cleansers present a more gentle alternative for sensitive skin types, or complexions that flare up under traditional scrubs.

So, how do you find your perfect formula? Just like with any new skin staple, start by determining your needs and any issues you want to address. If you’re lost on where to start, pick up a one-size-fits-all versions like Amorepacific’s Treat Enzyme Peel ($60; ) or Tatcha’s Gentle Rice Powder ($65; ), which work on all complexions.

NUDE Skincare’s Detox Brightening Fizzy Powder Wash ($42; ) is perfect for those in need of a serious deep cleansing, and if dark spots are a concern of yours, Peter Thomas Roth’s Camu Camu Brightening Cleansing Powder ($45; ) is rich in vitamin C to impart an instant illuminated effect. For acne-prone skin types, we recommend Murad’s Dual Action Cleanser and Exfoliator ($30; ). The dose of salicylic acid works to kill blemishes before they have time to form, and seems slightly more potent in its powder form. Like the rest of the formulas, Murad’s can be amped up or toned down by altering the water levels, and the dissolving beads ensure you won’t over-exfoliate your skin. Another unexpected plus to powder face washes? They won’t hold you up in the airport security line. While the TSA is easing up on security measures in terms of your beauty loot, a full-sized gel cleanser still runs the risk of being confiscated, which is why its powder counterpart just might be picking up a few more frequent flyer miles.
