Get Your Hair Cut at the Former Belmont Theater

This Week’s Top Story

Spoke & Weal (1637 W. Belmont Ave., spokeandweal.com), an Aveda salon with outposts in New York __and California, is now open in Lakeview in the old Belmont Theater. With tattooed, pieced staff all dressed in black, the lofty space has hairdryers hanging above chairs on suspension cords, __and a hip-hop-heavy soundtrack. But if that doesn’t sound relaxing, think again. Treatments—which include dry cuts, color, and styling—start with a neck, scalp, and shoulder massage. The salon is also big on education. When we stopped by, staffers pulled out a mannequin head and a flat-iron, and patiently led us through the process of creating subtle “s-waves” in our hair. It’s harder than it looks, so it’s a good thing we know where to find the pros.

Top Sales This Week

If you’ve been putting off that big winter adventure, now’s the time to go. Stock up on snowboarding essentials at Burton (56 E. Walton St., burton.com), which is offering jackets, beanies, and boots for up to 25 percent off. The brand’s signature Moto Snowboard Boots, made with heat-reflective foil to keep feet toasty, are one of the discounted items (reduced from $199.95 to $159.96).

At Icebreaker (44 E. Walton St., icebreaker.com), items for men and women are 30 to 50 percent off. Discounted goods include wool-lined, hooded jackets (reduced from $300  to $210) and cozy, Fair Isle leggings (reduced from $130 to $91).

Round out that deep-winter collection at North Face (875 N. Michigan Ave., stores.thenorthface.com), which is offering 40 percent off select goods. Get deals on a down parka (reduced from $299 to $179.40) and insulated boots (reduced from $120 to $71.99).

Trunk Show

Share (1222 Washington Ct., Wilmette, sharewilmette.com) hosts a trunk show for travel-inspired clothing line Roberta Roller Rabbit on March 15 and 16. Inspired by Venice, the brand’s spring collection includes fringed tunics, printed clutches, and breezy scarf dresses. See the whole line here.

Health & Beauty

Chicago-based beauty line Advanced Clinicals (advancedclinicals.com) just expanded its product range. Now whipping up body oils, serums, and face masks, the brand’s clinically tested goods target signs of aging with active ingredients like vitamin C and  retinol. But, this may be the most exciting part: every item, sold on the brand’s website, costs $25 or less. We’ve developed an inexpensive habit of mixing the Rosehip Anti-Aging Body Oil ($15) and the Argan Oil Intensive Beauty Cream ($15) together.
