You’ve planned every detail of your wedding: found your something blue, mastered your makeup look, and even nailed down all of your bridesmaids’ hairstyles. Type A? It’s OK—it’s your day. And the last thing you want is for something like a spray-tan mishap—such as a bronze formula smeared on your dream white dress—distracting you from the magic of your big day.
We know wearing white can be daunting, so you’re probably going to want to get some sort of faux glow (you’ve been wearing plenty of SPF, right?). So we created this special spray-tan guide just for brides. Once you’ve brushed up on the ABCs of tanning and how to exfoliate, read on to score tips from Jessica Bringas, the self-tanning pro at in New York City.
and her adorable pup, Milos, are back at it again.
In the second episode of Kate Spade New York’s #misadventure series, our favorite funny girl escapes wintery New York with her dog in tow and lands sunny L.A. The duo are welcomed by a handsome bellhop at the Sunset Hotel and that’s about where their good luck ends.
Dimitri Dimitrov mistakes Kendrick for a meditation instructor quickly whisks her off to the hotel’s penthouse for a private session with comedian Lily Tomlin.
Always making the best out of every situation, the muse embraces spontaneity and tries her best to create a zen atmosphere. She looks to her flamingo necklace for inspiration and decides to swing it back and forth. As both ladies inhale the powerful ambiance of the bird, Kendrick chants, “Pink is the color of the most positive energy in the world.”
It’s not clear if Kendrick’s mantra holds any truth or if Tomlin will be booking any additional sessions, but throw in that handsome little pooch and the adorable Kate Spade New York pieces and we’d definitely signup for a one-on-one with Kendrick. Watch the whole spot by clicking the above video.
Layering is in, and we’re not just talking about cute .
As you may already know, layering your daily skin care products can have some major benefits for your complexion. By combining a multitude of essential ingredients, you’ll improve efficacy, yielding more impressive results and a healthier glow. But in a world filled with endless amounts of moisturizers, serums, and anti-wrinkle creams, knowing exactly what to use and more importantly, in what order to use them, can be downright confusing, even for us.
To officially clear our minds (and our complexions), we quizzed Dr. Craig Kraffert, dermatologist and president of on the art of layering. Here, he breaks down the products you should be using, and exactly when to use them, in 7 steps.
Step 1: Cleanser “You gain quite a lot from cleansing as opposed to just splashing water on your face in the mornings. It’s important to cleanse twice daily (in the morning, you are cleansing away the dead skin cells your retinoid or other nighttime products have exfoliated from skin).”
Step 2: Exfoliator “Both cleansing and exfoliating are essential for keeping skin youthful and fresh, but in many cases, you can combine cleansing/exfoliating into one step. Save time by using a daily exfoliating powdered cleanser, which offer just a touch of gentle manual exfoliation, while also cleansing and removing makeup.”
Step 3: Toner “Toners are wonderful products to use, and while not everyone needs to use them, everyone can use them. They’re calming and provide an additional layer of hydration to prep the skin for makeup. Those with true acne-prone skin and oily skin tend to reap the most benefits from toner, because they’re formulated to remove sebum, oil and dirt from the pores. If you don’t have oily or acne prone skin, you may prefer to use toner as a time-saver during the day–they can be especially convenient for use while traveling or refreshing skin on a hot day without ruining your makeup.”
Step 4: Serum “Your serum should be full of botanical extracts and antioxidants, and feature lightweight yet powerful hydration properties as a primary benefit. Think water-based serums, like Aqua Veil Pure Hydration Serum.”
Step 5: Moisturizer A.M.: “You want your lotion or moisturizing cream to have some brightening or retinol properties—yes, it’s OK for daytime, too!—and then follow that with a light formulation of SPF coverage.”
P.M.: “Skin does its reparative work at night, so now’s the time to zero in on specific concerns with powerful anti-aging creams, and/or sleeping masks.”
Step 6: Eye Cream “Always the last step in your regular routine and twice a day is ideal. It is very important to keep the skin around your eyes moisturized.”
Step 7: SPF “Apply SPF over your moisturizer and under your makeup, because, by nature, SPF products sit on the skin and shields skin absorption. So an SPF will block any anti-aging cream placed on top of it from absorbing into the skin, compromising the benefits.”

Let me see your handbag, said to fashion icon . He made her dump all its contents on a table. Then he instructed her to stand against the wall, and he shot her and all of the items she’d been carrying.
The resulting images are part of the Los Angeles–based photographer’s project. For four years, Goldberg has been asking women around the globe—famous personalities like actresses Emmanuelle Chriqui and Stephanie March and Facebook Vice President Carolyn Everson, as well as district attorneys, students, and commuters—if he can rummage through their purses and wallets and photograph the mysteries contained therein. He then pairs mugshot-style portraits of each woman with her purse(onal) cargo. To date, Goldberg has photographed more than 300 women in New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, London, Tokyo, Seoul, Malaysia, and Singapore; he recently exhibited some of the results at Tokyo Photo 2014.
Goldberg is drawn to learn more about his subjects by exposing what they carry when they think nobody is looking. “Women’s purses are generally off limits,” he explains. “Even a husband would never dump out his wife’s purse and go through the items, but that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.”
Before you pull an , there’s something you should know. Red hair requires more maintenance than any other shade, according to celebrity colorist Danny Moon of . “The dye molecules found in red hair color are typically larger than that of other hues,” says Moon. Since those over-sized molecules can’t penetrate the hair shaft as deeply, “after three to four weeks, red hair tends to fade.” Womp, womp.
That said, with a little TLC, you can achieve Christina Hendricks-level locks without making the salon your second home. Your first move—or lack thereof—should be to avoid washing your hair for 48 hours after dye has been applied. After the two-day mark has passed, “rinse using very cold water to help close the cuticle and seal in the color,” says Moon. When it comes to normal washing, Moon stresses the importance of using shampoo and conditioner labeled as “sulfate-free” since, he says, these formulas tend to be more gentle and less likely to strip hair of natural oils and dye. Even so, it’s ideal to wash just once a week, since the longer you can go without, the less likely you are to experience fading. A spritz of dry shampoo (Batiste Dry Shampoo in Vibrant Red ($9, ) is red hair-friendly) is your best bet to combat oil in between, according to Moon.
But longtime not-so-natural redheads know that skipping a wash or two can only keep hair luminous for so long. That’s why Moon tells his red-haired clients to use an at-home treatment between salon appointments for an extra boost. “A conditioning treatment is a great way to revive vibrancy and tone, which is just what redheads require,” he says. Moon, an ambassador for Pravana, recommends the brand’s NEVO Color Enhancer Treatment ($20, for salons) as it deposits professional dye but is applied like a deep conditioner. “After you shampoo, apply the treatment to towel-dried hair and leave for one to two minutes before rinsing,” he says. If you apply a similar product monthly, you’ll find you only need to visit the salon every six to eight weeks.
At the end of the day, Moon’s advice to (unnatural) redheads is simple: “Be good to your red hair and your red hair will be good to you.”
When handpicks you to be the opening act for her much-hyped about 1989 World Tour, it means you’re something special. And, with a chart-topping debut album Dream Your Life Away (out now) and the second-longest single to ever remain on the Billboard Hot 100, Aussie singer-songwriter James Keogh (better known by his stage name Vance Joy) definitely fits the bill. (His chosen moniker was pulled from Peter Carey’s book Bliss, and is based on the father of the protagonist who tells the story.)
With a towering frame a little over six-feet tall and an accent that’s sure to make Swifties swoon, the well-read 27-year-old has wooed audiences from his native Melbourne to, most recently, the flower-crown adorned crowds at . We caught up with the singer at the InStyle offices in between playing two rounds at the Palm Springs fest. Here’s an excerpt from our chat:
How was your first experience at Coachella? Palm Springs is such a bizarre place. I wasn’t expecting the grass to be as green as it was—I was expecting it to be a bit more gritty. I was a bit nervous to play there because it’s so well-known. There’s more hype around Coachella than any other festival.
What bands did you see? St. Vincent was incredible—she’s such a great performer and guitarist, and her dance moves were on-point. Florence was awesome too. She had such a ’70s vibe with her white flares. Something felt really vintage and classic about the whole set.
And came on after her, but he was about a half-hour late. The whole thing is so finely tuned—you know when your time to go on is. A half-hour is a lot of space to fill—he probably knows he’s going on at 10:45 but just looks like he doesn’t care. I doubt he’s just sitting there waiting!
Alex Reside for InStyle.com
How did you and Taylor connect? I met her when she was doing a soundcheck at The Late Show with David Letterman, and I was doing a show at Webster Hall. Someone asked me last-minute if I wanted to meet her and her band. She was lovely. I’m really excited [for the tour], because it means playing for heaps of more people. It’ll make me lift my game a lot.
Who were you excited to meet at the festival? It was funny, other bands that I know had all these cool actors, but I didn’t have any crew with me. I did see walk in though. It’s crazy that this festival has such a culture of famous people coming.
But you’ve got T-Swift in your corner! That’s true—I’ve got the number one Ace of Spades.

Remember that bright blue eyeshadow you first swiped on your lids as a kid? Dig it back out. We’re abandoning our “I woke up like this” bare faces for a graphic splash of showy shadow across our lids. But since vivid eye makeup intimidates even us, we spoke with Jenny Smith, lead makeup stylist for Nars, to find out what brights pair well with each eye color, to keep the look cool, not clownish.
Finding our most complementary color became much less intimidating once Smith suggested using a basic . “Color wheels are an easy way to put together which colors work best together,” Smith tells InStyle. “And they’re only a few dollars at any arts and crafts store.”
For Blue Eyes
Courtesy
For blue or blue-green eyes, Smith (and her color wheel) says go orange to make eyes look lighter and brighter. The same way a spray tan highlights blue eyes, warm orange and gold tones, like those in the Nars Mediteranee Duo Eyeshadow ($35; ), make cool blue eyes pop. Avoid black line (it can make the look appear “Halloweenie,” says Smith) and accent with brown liner and mascara instead.
For Brown Eyes
Courtesy
Brown is a mix of all the colors so it pairs with color easier than other iris shades, but a sweep of blue shadow is exceptionally flattering. Unlike blue or green eyes, brown eyes tend to remain one shade regardless of the colors accenting them. The contrast of an electric blue, like Nars Outremer Matte Eyeshadow ($25; ), will help to really bring out your best brown, says Smith.
For Green Eyes

If Christmas has taught us anything, it’s that green and red work well together. Smith suggests channeling the same spirit to make green eyes glow. Although, she says, muddling the red with a little white and going pink instead of full-on fire-engine red is fine. The pink tulle and bright pink shades in the Nars Bouthan Duo Eyeshadow ($35; ) make a good starting point.
For Hazel Eyes

“They’re more light brown, but they’re a little more gold,” says Smith of hazel eyes. And the yellow tones of gold make purple the most flattering match for hazel-eyed girls. Periwinkle and plum shades, like those in the Nars Jolie Poupée Duo Eyeshadow ($35; ) especially give brown-green eyes an extra je ne sais quoi.
As with all bright makeup, Smith suggests practicing the look. “Don’t try new shadows in the morning; try it on at nighttime,” she says. “You can practice and make mistakes and wash it off.” And, of course, always start with less and gradually add more.

After visiting the flagship store on Fifth Avenue, Witherspoon shared with her Instagram followers a picture recreating the iconic film proposal. Her former co-star, the dreamy , wasn’t there to pop the question, but the luxury jeweler made up for it with an ideal understudy.
Following her trip to the store, the actress attended the Tiffany & Co. unveiling of the 2015 Blue Book Collection, which features some of the most glamorous jewels in the world. Walking into one of their stores and being told to pick whatever you want, like in the film, would be a dream come true. And while we’re not sure if the actress was allowed to choose her favorite piece this time around, we see why Witherspoon was excited to relive the magical screen moment again.

Your love was written in the stars, but what about your wedding dress? Choosing what to wear on your big day may seem like a challenging task, but with the cosmos doing the work for you, finding the perfect style has never been easier. Because whether you know it or not, your signature style is influenced by your zodiac sign, and your attraction to tulle, lace, or cutouts runs deep. These 12 styles encapsulate the 12 signs of the zodiac and can help steer you in the right direction just in time for your walk down the aisle.
Our love for knows no bounds—in addition to her hilarious cameo with at the last night, the star won big in the style department in her graphic black and white number by Mugler, which was contrasted by a sexy, smoldering eye and pop of color lip. No surprise here: The look translates just as well into the real world, and her makeup artist Molly Stern gave us the complete how-to!
“Getting Reese ready for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards was a blast. This show is the perfect venue for us, as the hair and makeup teams go a little funkier than we do for other red carpets,” she says. “For tonight’s look, I wanted the focus to be on Reese’s eyes.” To start, Stern prepped Witherspoon’s complexion with a layer of the Kiehl’s Hydro Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate ($58; ) all over, then mixed both the light and medium hues of Kiehl’s BB Cream ($37 each; ) to even out the star’s skin tone. “I wanted a sheer and fresh looking complexion,” she says. “This allowed her naturally great skin to shine through.”
In lieu of shading powder, Stern picked up the Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Embrace ($56; ), a soft peach, to sculpt out her cheekbones, then used the Christopher Kane for Nars blush in Starscape ($30; starting April 15), which gave the apples of her cheeks a hot pink flush.
Once her glowing complexion had been set, Stern moved on to the smoked-out eye. A swipe of the Dior Fusion Mono Shadow in Mirage ($31; ) provided a neutral base for the shadow to adhere, followed by the Nars Matte Shadow in Bengali ($25; ), which was blended along the upper lash line. She then used the Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Pencil in Star Black ($19; ) to trace the perimeter of each eye, and smudged out the line to soften it. “This gave a bit of a gritty edge to her otherwise fresh look,” Stern adds. With a few pumps of the lash curler and two coats of DiorShow Iconic Overcurl Mascara ($29; s) topping off the eyes, the pro moved on to Witherspoon’s airy, melon-tinted lip. Stern set the base color with Laura Mercier’s Paint Wash in Coral Reef ($28; ), and swept the ColourPop Gloss Stick in Juicy ($5; ) to make the shade extra-bold.
Sometimes feel too busy to wash off your makeup? Stop right there! Pro globetrotter, dished on how she keeps her undeniably amazing skin healthy while on the road. Earlier this week at the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge launch in New York, the model let InStyle in on her two-minute skincare routine.

celebrated the release of her new film, Desert Dancer, with a special screening last night at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, where she discussed the intense training the cast went through to prepare for the film. The Indian beauty (in ), with co-star Reece Ritchie, thanked the audience for coming to view her “passionate project,” which follows the true story of an Iranian dancer, Afshin Ghaffarian.
The cast trained with choreographer Akram Khan six days a week for four months, regardless of injuries and blistered toes. “I have an immense respect for dancers,” Pinto told InStyle. “I always respected them before this film, but after the amount of training and sacrifices we made, it’s even greater.” Ritchie only had good things to say about his co-star: “It was hard for both of us but she was willing to cross over into the deep end.”
Set in Iran during the 2009 election when dancing was illegal, the film follows a group of friends who form an underground dance group and learn through YouTube videos before performing an interpretive dance in the desert. Pinto plays Elaheh, a tortured young Iranian student, heroin addict, and love interest to Afshin.

The post below entitled, “A Small Tweak to Chocolate Will Make it Better for You,” originally appeared on . To read the full article, .
Sure, optimistic studies have already suggested that chocolate , like reduced risk of heart disease or lower blood pressure. But typically, the amount of chocolate you have to eat to get those benefits completely negates them with lots of sugar and fats. But new research suggests that simply altering the standard way in which we produce chocolate could increase the beneficial compounds in one of the world’s favorite sweets.
To understand why, we have to go to the beginning of a candy bar’s life cycle. Chocolate begins as pods on a cacao tree. These pods are split open to remove the beans inside. Producers then ferment the beans, drying them in the sun. From there, roasters take over, roasting the beans to bring out their flavor. However, roasting also removes polyphenols, the chemicals that give chocolate its health benefits. Some scientists (who were probably looking for a reason to eat more chocolate) set out to find a way to reduce the loss of these awesome antioxidants.
“ before the beans were even fermented to see whether that would have an effect on the polyphenol content,” said Dr. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, who led the chocolate study at the University of Ghana. “This is not traditionally done, and this is what makes our research fundamentally different.”
Afoakwa’s team tried storing the pods in different increments: 10 days, seven days, three days or not at all. What they found is that pods that sat for seven days yielded the highest antioxidant levels. Additionally, they discovered that lower, slower roasting temperatures also helped the beans maintain higher levels of these beneficial molecules.
But here’s the kicker: Not only is chocolate processed in this manner healthier, it’s also apparently tastes better. According to Afoakwa, the new process “aided the fermentation processes and enhanced antioxidant capacity of the beans, as well as the flavor.”

The post below entitled, “An Easy, Portable Way to DIY Cold Brew Coffee,” originally appeared on . To read the full article, .
In , we discovered that making cold brew coffee is a cumbersome process. Even though it’s grown in popularity, the time and effort involved tend to encourage people to just buy it at coffee shops—or now, even at Starbucks. But a new compact brewing system plans to make it easy to make cold brew yourself.
The BOD system, which is about to hit the coffee market, uses an integrated approach to completely contain the cold brew process in a single vessel. That makes the whole thing more compact than a brewer like a Toddy, which, while one of the world’s most popular ways to make cold brew, is a bit bulky. The BOD also has a sleeker look than most cold brewers, so you feel good about leaving it out on the counter.
It’s also specifically designed to make your cold brew portable. It comes with two easy-to-fill flasks—one of which is even tailored to met TSA specifications, so you can bring it to the airport and avoid the scourge of airplane coffee.
The BOD is now available for pre-order. It , but early buyers get a $20 discount.
April showers may bring May flowers, but this month it’s also bringing some great books. After scouring the latest releases, we rounded up the best new novels we think you should be reading in April. Whether you’re a fan of memoirs, historical fiction, or mystery thrillers, there’s something for everyone on this list. Scroll down to see the seven books that we think you’ll enjoy this month. Happy reading!
1. Night, Night Sleep Tight by Hallie Ephron ($27; )
Courtesy
Just like her big sis Nora, this talented Ephron is fully capable of captivating an audience for extended periods of time (304 pages, to be exact). But instead of the usual cheery rom-com that’s become synonymous with her last name, this enthralling story is decidedly darker in tone. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, it follows Deirdre Unger, who, after moving to the West Coast to assist her ailing father, discovers his body face down in the family pool. After initially chalking it up to a tragic accident, she soon discovers that it could in fact be a murder, and is hell-bent on figuring out who’s guilty of the crime.
2. Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center ($31; )
Courtesy
If you’re anything like us, you’ll read this book in one sitting. Reminiscent of non-fiction bestsellers like Wild and Eat Pray Love, Center’s fictional tale follows a similar narrative: A woman who needs a life change decides to go on a journey that will hopefully change her life. In this case, it’s Helen, a 30-something divorcée who decides to embark on a wilderness survival course in Wyoming. However, things don’t go quite as she expects. As she pushes herself to the limit, she discovers she may be in for much more than she bargained for.
3. The Tapestry by Nancy Bilyeau ($21; )
Courtesy
Fans of the Tudor era, you’re in for a treat. In the third installment of Bilyeau’s dramatic trilogy, we once again meet Joanna Stafford, a former nun who is determined to protect both her beliefs and her friends from the dangerous politics that surround King Henry VIII’s reign. This time around, Joanna is summoned to Whitehall Palace, where she must not only thwart assassination attempts, but also navigate the pitfalls of court, all while trying to decide the life she wants to live: nun, wife, rebel, or courtier. While you don’t necessarily need to read the previous two novels, and , you may want to before beginning The Tapestry.
4. At the Water’s Edge by Sarah Gruen ($17; )
Courtesy
From the talented writer behind Water for Elephants comes this equally compelling period piece set in 1944 Philadelphia: At the Water’s Edge tells the story of a privileged young socialite named Madeline Hyde, who is cut off financially by her husband’s army colonel father after the two publicly humiliate themselves at a tony New Year’s Eve bash. Seeking revenge, the disgraced couple attempts to regain their throne by hunting down the much-talked-about Loch Ness monster (the Colonel’s one failed quest). What results is two former society folk mingling with the commoners, and a heartwarming story about life, and the places it can potentially take you.
5. A Fine Romance by Candice Bergen (available April 7, $20; )
Courtesy
The highly anticipated follow-up to the storied actress’s self-deprecating autobiography, Knock Wood, does not disappoint. Chronicling her nearly 15-year marriage to French director Louis Malle, the birth of her daughter, Vogue editor Chloe Malle, and getting a second shot at love (with New York real estate magnate Marshall Rose, no less), Bergen remains candid as ever and spares no shocking details. After burning through her life at a rapid pace, you’ll either want to be her BFF or her adopted daughter.
6. Where They Found Her by Kimberly McCreight (available April 14, $20; )
Courtesy
While many books have been billed as the next Gone Girl, this mystery thriller definitely will intrigue fans of Gillian Flynn’s bestseller. After the body of an infant is found in the woods bordering a prestigious university, the wealthy New Jersey town associated with the school undergoes a series of shocking revelations as the investigative reporter assigned to the case uncovers a string of disturbing sexual crimes. Told in multiple views, the reader will have to decide what is truth and what is fiction in this heart-pounding read.
7. Paris Red by Maureen Gibbon (available April 20, $19; )
Courtesy
Behind every great piece of art is a story untold, but Gibbon is here to change that for Edouard Manet’s infamously provocative painting Olympia in her new book Paris Red. Set in the French city in 1862, Gibbon tells the story of Manet’s muse, 17-year-old Victorine, who posed for the controversial painting. From their initial meeting in a store’s window front to their eventual affair, you’ll be caught up in the rich and sensuous world that Gibbon’s weaves right from the beginning. Oui indeed!
We’ve fallen fast and furious for premiere look. The star’s sartorial streak during the Furious 7 promo tour has, thus far, been a spectacular one to behold, but this one has eclipsed the rest.

To keep her red carpet look whimsicality intact, she accessorized with non-distracting elements, like a pale clutch and nude ankle-strap sandals. The overall effect? Relaxed elegance.

And last night at The Woman in Gold premiere, clad in a black dress, she also proved that she’s a fuss-free kind of gal. “It’s a one stop shop for me,” she said of choosing her dress by the duo. “I zip it up and it fit perfectly and it’s brilliant. They just do beautiful evening wear.”
But just because she’s a Dame doesn’t mean she doesn’t love to come home and put her feet up after a long day just like the rest of us, telling InStyle that her post red carpet routine is to “take my shoes off, put my pajamas on, switch on the TV, and watch Dance Moms.”
Joining Mirren at the premiere was co-star , clad in a fuscia dress that featured midriff cutouts. “I just love it,” she told InStyle of her sexy, sparkly ensemble which first caught her eye on the catwalk during New York Fashion Week. “I saw it at his runway show and I love pink.” Sounds like quite a fun girl’s night out.
The real Amanda Clarke is finally standing up. Last night on , took the mic to make a major revelation—at the groundbreaking ceremony, she tells the crowd that Daniel Grayson saved her life when she was attacked by Malcolm Black, and that she is the real Amanda Clarke. For such a pivotal moment, costume designer Jill Ohanneson wanted to find a dress that encompassed the worlds of both Emily and Amanda, which she did with a floral print gown by .
“I wanted her to come across not as a conniving, scheming person, which she kind of has been, so we were playing against that since she’s revealing herself in such a public way on the air,” she tells InStyle. “It worked for me emotionally, and Emily was into it too. The color, texture, and pattern all felt right because there is so much going on through the whole scene.”
The costume team had the idea of a white dress in mind to symbolize that Emily was coming clean about her identity, once she saw the contrast between the soft blossoms and graphic stems against the transparent fabric, Ohanneson knew the Herrera number was the one.
“It had the little daisy flowers from when Amanda was young, but also the black, thorny stems that symbolized the Emily we know, so for me, it combined who she used to be with who she became,” she says. “The bit of sheerness at the top suggested she was being transparent and revealing everything, without the dress being overly-sexual.” Ohanneson altered the gown to a tea-length skirt, then topped off the effect with a metallic belt, and a set of dangling earrings.
This season, ’s costume designer Dan Lawson is exclusively giving InStyle readerstips for what to wear to work, inspired by the characters’ ensembles on the show.
On last night’s episode of , Alicia Florrick () won the state’s attorney race, something that should have had a little more joy than the immediate drama that ensued after. Nevertheless, she remained chic as ever as she dealt with her new set of challenges, thanks to costume designer . This week, his favorite look was this white wool jacket, he told us, which featured a modified scalloped hem. “I wanted Alicia to be very clean and elegant, but still stylish,” he told us. “This shawl collar reads classic, but the scalloped edge says interesting and unique. It proves that even when you want to go simple and elegant and straight-forward with a look, a little extra detail can make all the difference.”
Your takeaway tip: “Use a unique detail to make what could be a flat look into eye-catching style that shows your personality as well as your discerning taste,” Lawson says.
Like a base coat for your manicure, face primers provide a canvas for smooth, even coverage. They fill lines, keep oil at bay, and give your makeup some serious staying power. So what’s going on with all the different colors? Each one tackles a different issue, from evening out areas of redness to brightening up a sallow complexion. And they only look that vibrant in the tube: As you apply, they blend translucently into skin, whether worn under foundation or on their own for a fresh-faced look.
Here, we’ve decoded 5 types of color correctors and how you can add them to your routine. Find the one that best works for you, below!
Purple: Sallow skin sufferers, this one’s for you. Primers in shades of lavender or purple like e.l.f.’s Studio Mineral Infused Face Primer (above, $6; ) counteract unwanted yellow tones for a brighter complexion.
Green:

Best for those who are prone to acne, green tints work like magic to conceal areas of redness. A pea-sized dab of Make Up For Ever’s Step 1 Skin Equalizer ($36; ) is all it takes to calm blemishes before foundation.
Pink:

Dealing with a dull complexion? Think pink—the color is known for adding luminosity to lackluster skin. Give Clinique’s Super Primer ($27; ) a try to achieve a natural, healthy-looking glow.
Yellow:

Applying a tinge of yellow will warm your complexion, even out ruddiness, and erase signs of fatigue. Prep with Koh Gen Do’s Makeup Primer Base ($28; ) to instantly give tired skin a boost.

Peach:
Add a peach hue to your routine if you’re looking to disguise dark discolorations like veins, sunspots and under eye circles. We like Smashbox’s Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer ($39; ), which rejuvenates skin with vitamins A and E.
The following is from the post, “3 Services That Deliver Wine to Your Door,” which originally appeared on .
Still serving Two Buck Chuck at every dinner party simply because you’re too overwhelmed by the variety of choices at the wine store? Look no further than these three wine delivery services that not only deliver vino to your doorstep but also guide you through the selection process.
1. Think boutique-style wines from distant, interesting regions of the world delivered to you each month for $35 (plus s/h). Each shipment contains information on the vineyards as well as complementary recipes. Kingston’s shares (packages of wine duos) are handpicked by the owners but can be tailored to your preferences for a slightly higher rate.
2. What’s better than having two bottles of wine delivered to your home? Three bottles of wine via Glassful for $54 per month. The home delivery service specializes in organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines. Bonus: Glassful chooses only wines that don’t have added preservatives or sulfates.
3. This service goes beyond the wine-of-the-month club. Club W partners with notable vineyards and winemakers, who handpick dozens of bottles for you to choose from. You pick three of those vinos for the month or have Club W choose for you based off your preliminary palate test, all for $39.
If it weren’t for the gorgeous glow these mini works of art created on our skin, we’d probably have them hanging on our wall instead of stashed away in our makeup bags. Patterned blushes boast more than just a pretty face—depending on where you concentrate your brush, you can pick up different tones to contour areas of your face, and highlight others using one streamlined pan. We’re obsessed with the Burberry S/S 15 Runway Palette ($68; ), which mirrors the hand-painted vibe and airy petal tones seen on the runway, and the Philip Treacy’s Art Deco-themed Highlight Powder for MAC ($32; ). True to the designer’s elegant aesthetic, the soft pink gets a high definition finish, thanks to the jolt of subtle pewter shimmer that creates a natural dewy appearance.
Enviable apricot flush aside, Dior’s Glowing Color Cannage Palette ($65; ) also gives a nod to the the label’s heritage with the trademark woven pattern in three shades of matte and sparkly coral tones. If your complexion is in need of some extra hydration, you’ll love the nourishing ingredients mixed into Tarte’s Colored Clay Bronzer Blush ($30; ) and the Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush ($13; ). Tarte’s blush has purple and gold clays baked into the design to give your complexion a shot of moisture, while the Physicians Formula mosaic is infused with a generous amount of argan oil.
It’s always challenging for indie bands to say relevant, and few existing acts have had as much long-term success as The Killers. The Las Vegas-based quartet fronted by the devilishly handsome Brandon Flowers is pretty much an anomaly: After cementing their place in the music scene in 2004 with the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album Hot Fuss (and a very memorable performance on The O.C.), they returned two years later with Sam’s Town, which yielded “When You Were Young”—largely viewed as one of their most successful singles to date.
Subsequently, 2008’s Day & Age and 2012’s Battle Born sold a collective four million copies and earned a slew of awards, including Best International Band by NME. But despite the group’s massive worldwide success, their fearless leader Brandon Flowers has chosen to fly solo in recent years, coming out with his second of two albums this May, called The Desired Effect. But die-hard fans need not worry: According to Flowers, The Killers aren’t going anywhere. We caught up with the singer after his show at Webster Hall in N.Y.C. Here’s an excerpt from our conversation:
What was it like growing up in Vegas? Are you a big fan of The Strip?
I love it. Some people can’t wrap their heads around it. I actually grew up on the outskirts in a town called Henderson, but we’d visit when family members would come in from out of town. We’d go see The Mirage, or The Luxor would be finished and be the biggest hotel in the world. There was always something exciting happening.
I read you worked as a bell boy out there.
I started out working at golf courses and then I moved on to bussing tables at Caesar’s Palace and The Aladdin. Then I became a bell man at The Gold Coast just off the strip. I thought it was very exciting. I thrived off of the hustle and bustle and the turnover rate.
Should fans of The Killers be worried about your burgeoning solo career?
No, it’s nothing too different from the last one. An ideal world for me is to be able to do them both right now.
The Desired Effect sounds like a departure from your last solo album (2010’s Flamingo). Is that due to teaming up with producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Haim, Vampire Weekend, Madonna)?
Ariel’s funky. He brings the funk.
He must’ve recruited Danielle Haim for your collaboration on “Can’t Deny My Love.”
He produced their record, so she was around. A lot of people don’t realize what a great dummer she is and how musical she is.
Haim had a big blowout debut similar to The Killers in 2004. Do you have any words of wisdom for the sisters?
It’s tough. The ideal trajectory for a band used to be to start off and get bigger as you go, and you evolve and you have a breakthrough record. That’s the romantic notion of it all. But when you come out with a big record first, you’re just instantly thrust into the limelight and all those expectations are put on you. They should just approach the next record like there’s no tomorrow—just like they would’ve done the first one. One of the best pieces of advice we ever got was from Bono: “Spare us the interesting second record.” One is great, but it isn’t enough.
Are you sick of playing songs from Hot Fuss at this point?
I think it’s nice. There are people that are going to be at the concerts that have heard it live 100 times, and there are people that it’ll still be their first time, so I’m still buzzing off of that. I haven’t gotten tired of it yet.
Let’s talk about your style for a minute. You used to be a big proponent of the suit. What made you decide to abandon that look?
Honestly, it’s tough to perform in. The more that I got involved in becoming the frontman, the harder it was. You think of Freddie Mercury onstage in a tank top and a pair of jeans, and he was free to perform. Had he been confined to a three-piece suit, he wouldn’t have been the performer that he was. But there’s probably a middle ground we could find without being as scantily clad as Freddie was.
Do you have a favorite piece in your wardrobe right now?
Probably the sparkly Saint Laurent jacket I wore on The Tonight Show. I hate saying the name [of the designer], though. I call it “S.L.”

It’s Rockettes season! Wait, so soon? Indeed, the world-famous Rockettes are back at Radio City Music Hall after the Christmas/holiday season for the first new show in its 81-year history. This time, they’re on stage with the , which gives the 6,000 guests in the theater each night a tour through the history and highlights of N.Y.C., from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to Central Park to Broadway to the sports teams to Ellis Island to even New York Fashion Week.
Last night was opening night for the show, and spectacular it was. Nashville’s Laura Benanti stars as Jenna, the #girlboss billionaire tech company exec who’s trying to digitize the New York experience, and Dancing with the Stars’s Derek Hough is the angel sent down from heaven, via the voice command of Whoopi Goldberg, to convince her to get out from behind her screen and live in the moment. (Side note: The Easter bunny shows up a lot, too—it’s a kid-friendly show, after all!)
The New York Fashion Week scene was one of our favorite numbers—no surprise there. “New York City is the fashion capital of the world,” the giant voice inside the theater declares, and all of the sudden, a runway appears, cameramen surround it, and the Rockettes model iconic looks from three designers: vibrant printed wrap dresses by , floral day dresses by , and dramatic red-carpet looks by . Watch an exclusive video of that scene above.
We also enjoyed the numerous cameos, including Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Donald Trump, and , who voices the Alice in Wonderland statue in the Central Park scene. “I haven’t heard my voice yet on stage,” she told us before going to pose with the Rockettes pre-show. “I don’t know what it sounds like or looks like, but I hear it’s freaking cool. I usually have a really deep voice, but I made sure Alice was more light and cutesy.” (It was.)

As for Benanti, she hopes theatergoers leave with a message. “I really appreciate how this show is teaching people, especially young people, that while technology is important, it can not be the only thing,” Benanti told us before the show began. “We have to, at some point, put our devices down and be with each other because there is no substitute for the real thing. I think that’s an important message to send to young people and their families.”

In a move of playful deception, star unveiled two looks in one night—with one look.
At last night’s Mad Men Black & Red Ball, the redhead bombshell made a dramatic entrance in an incredible teal butterfly-embroidered taffeta ball gown that swept the red carpet and extravagantly ballooned at the waist. A moment later, Hendricks was snapped in the same design but without the voluminous skirt. Was it collapsible? Had she switched outfits? No, it was neither. The ball skirt was detachable, and she had simply removed it for the second set of shots.
It’s a match made in fashion heaven—after more than a year of broadcasting her love for and the ensuing speculation that she might be a front runner for the campaign, things are now official.
Calvin Klein Jeans has announced the #mycalvins Denim Series, a limited edition CK-branded urban and athletic streetwear–inspired collection, and with it, the two models to front the campaign—Jenner and male model Simon Nessman. “Modeling for Calvin Klein Jeans is really a dream come true,” Jenner says in a statement. “I’ve grown up wearing the brand and seeing the iconic advertising in magazines and on billboards featuring some of the world’s top supermodels. To now be a part of that legacy is truly an honor.”
“Kendall is a modern beauty who brings her youthful spirit and edge to this special Calvin Klein Jeans campaign,” says Melisa Goldie, chief marketing officer of Calvin Klein, Inc. “Kendall’s powerful fan base and global reach will further amplify the current cultural conversation surrounding the Calvin Klein Jeans brand and highlight this exciting limited edition.”

The line will debut exclusively at Opening Ceremony before it will become available at on May 15. Until then, take a look at Jenner in her Calvins:
The following is from the post, “3 Ways to Feel Good About Your Neck,” which originally appeared on .
Nora Ephron once wrote, “Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth. You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn’t if it had a neck.” Here are three ways to keep your neck in fine form:
1. Moisturize ($95), which can be used morning and night, is thicker than most facial creams. Place a couple dabs on your bustline, then give yourself a gentle mini-massage as you work it upward toward your chin.
2. Protect ‘s ($42) super-thin formula in a near-universal tint evens out splotchy skin while SPF 50 guards against sun damage. Put it on every day just after your bra but before your blouse, to make sure it has time to dry.
3. Exfoliate ($13) has retinol to gently exfoliate and encourage collagen production. Use it as a facial night cream, too—the reasonable price point lets you feel good about never missing a spot.
It looks like when it comes to maternity style, won’t be hiding behind any typical mom-to-be duds. The actress hit LAX airport on Monday in a very sexy curve-hugging black dress that showed off the first hints of her growing baby bump.
Rivera teamed her long-sleeve turtleneck LBD with all black accessories: a pair of thigh-high boots, an Kelly bag, and aviator sunglasses. The actress matched her outfits sleek vibe with an equally sleek hairdo. Rivera that she and her , Ryan Dorsey, were expecting their first child together in February with an adorable “bun in the over” Instagram snap. We can’t wait to see what other stylish ensembles this mom-to-be wows us with next.
If you’ve never suffered a curling iron-induced burn, consider yourself among the privileged few. It’s the reason why I tend to shy away from hair irons of all sorts—that is, until now.
I love the look of big, bouncy, brushed-out curling-iron curls, and when I went on a quest to find a worthy substitute for my standard curler, I stumbled upon Hot Tools Thermal Hot Air Brush ($26; ).
Courtesy
Turns out, you get some serious bang for your buck with this one, as it works simultaneously as a round brush, hair dryer, and curler. Not unlike your traditional curling iron, its got a self-rotating barrel. But, the magic lies in the fact that this device dries and curls at the same time, so the air enables hair to glide more easily through the tool (the flexible nylon bristles don’t hurt, either).
Being that I’m perpetually in pursuit of adding volume to my fine, flat hair, I first used the tool as I would a round brush, focusing less on curling and more on adding some oomph near my roots. The tool totally came through—and I was nearly giddy about the time I saved by skipping my usual blow dryer/round brush balancing act. Later, I used the device specifically to curl my hair and was equally thrilled with the curling iron-like results.
And just like that, my fear of curlers is conquered. As for my quest for the perfect tool for big, bouncy curls? Officially over.

Ever since ‘s now-infamous Surf Spray ($27; ) launched in 2001, the beauty world has continued to sing its praises to the tune of any hit that also made its debut in the early aughts. Though the original formula worked wonders at giving fine and straight strands that lived-in surfer girl texture, for the rest of us curly and coarse hair types, the product proved to be effective, albeit a bit drying. Now, the brand’s new Surf Infusion spray ($29; ) is rolling out just in time for mermaid hair season with a revamped formula that won’t leave your ringlets parched.
Surf Infusion is equipped with an innovative salt-in-oil concoction, which fuses hydrating mango, palm, coconut, and passion fruit oils with the sea salt texturizing agent. The oil counteracts the drying effects of the salt, while amping up the tousled effect, and providing protection against the sun’s UV rays. “Infusing that saltiness with oils as not been done like this before,” says Laurent Philippon, Bumble and Bumble Global Artistic Director. “It brings the right amount of moisture to hair, with that beautiful beach texture.” Simply shake the bottle to mix the formula, then spritz it onto either damp or dry hair to channel your inner beach babe. Though sonic cleansing brushes are great for getting your face super-clean, the scrubbing action can be a little too aggressive for more sensitive complexions, and after a few uses, the bristles on the brush tend to get a little funky from the makeup and dirt removed from your skin. Enter Michael Todd’s Soniclear tool ($149; ), which is armed with ultra-soft bristles infused with an innovative technology. A wet brush head can be a breeding ground for bacteria and could cause even more flare-ups if not cleansed properly, but thanks to the anti-microbial formula each bristle is steeped in during the manufacturing process, Michael Todd’s version keeps your skin and the tool itself safe from skin-irritating elements.
True to the brand’s natural formulas, the anti-microbial solution uses ingredients derived from organic materials that are tough on germs and bacteria, but gentle on your skin. The technology stops bacteria from reproducing on the brush head, meaning you can spend less time washing the tool, and more time perfecting your complexion. Instead of replacing the brush attachment every 3 months, the anti-microbial formula allows you to swap it out every 6, or twice a year. Of course, this doesn’t substitute washing your face brush altogether—after each use, we recommend rinsing the brush head with a gentle soap and warm water to remove any makeup left behind, and sticking it in the included charging station to dry completely. Pick up a kit for yourself, which includes a body brush attachment, trio of face cleansers, and charging station, for $149 at and at Ulta stores nationwide now!
